Visit the “Neuschwanstein” of the North!
At the beginning, Wernigerode Castle was a medieval fortified castle.
After several reconstructions, between 1862 and 1883, the fundamental conversion into an excellent model of North German Historism took place.

The architect Carl Frühling created, in the historic style, an impressive Castle complex with outstanding effect from afar and with beautiful artistic quality in the interior. Since 1930, the Castle is partially open to the public. Allow you the fantastic experience of a visit in the Castle.

The Castle museum offers you an insight in the cultural life of past times. The Castle is shown exactly in the style of the time when Count Otto zu Stollberg-Wernigerode lived here. From 1867, the Count was Superior President of the Prussian province Hannover, later on German ambassador in Vienna and finally deputy of Chancellor Bismarck, i.e. Vice Chancellor of the German Reich and deputy of the Prussian Prime Minister.

Yearly, the Castle has more than 200,000 visitors. From the large outdoor terrace, you enjoy the view beyond the town and the Harz mountains to the Brocken. Visiting the Castle, you will admire the unique architecture of the ring-shaped building. In more than 40 original or restored rooms, you can discover heaps of objects d´art and cultural assets.
